Tierrasanta History

Tierrasanta was originally part of the Mission San Diego de Alcal?, active during the late 18th and 19th centuries. In 1941, the U.S. Military purchased the land as Camp Elliott, designated to be used as a Marine Corps training facility. In 1944 the land was transferred to the Navy and the Marines vacated the facility and were deactivated in 1946. The land was purchased from the U.S. Government by the city of San Diego in 1961. The area is now Tierrasanta and part of the neighboring Mission Trail Regional Park. Read more >
